WELCOME TO THE CHURCH OF THE OPEN SEA

“The only thing we can be certain of is that we exist, and we do so in a truly mysterious and magnificent realm we call The Universe” Anonymous

What can we say of “Good” and “Evil”?

Only that it is defined differently by every individual on the planet.

As a force it has been personified in "God" and "The Devil".

And yet, only when the terms are applied to the actions and motives of an individual do they manifest.

Do they even exist outside of the actions of humanity?

Or do they only become relevant in communities, when our actions affect others?

Does the Universe act with “good” or “evil” intent or is it more like the Open Sea?

The Sea, which moves as it does, and carries vessels where it may?

Each of us in our own ship, responsible for our own actions, and the Sea our companion.

There are no angry Gods of The Sea, just a vastness to explore.

Could we better define individuals as either Admirals or Pirates, and the Universe a vast playground?

The Church of The Open Sea is simply an invitation, a place to build community and solve problems. It is not a Christian organization. The experiences in our lives are a gift from the Universe, and we need to share them with each other. The time has come for us as a global community to discard the notion of good and evil and replace it with a definition better suited to its manifestation in human behavior. Replaced with a spectrum of selflessness to selfishness that we find in ourselves. The next great societal leap will be from the efforts of community builders, who put aside their differences and promote selfless behavior rather than moral absolutes and rigid dogmas. Meeting face to face and getting to know our neighbours is where the strength to build better communities begins, and everyone’s needs and ideas matter. The great battle between God and the Devil, good and evil, is happening at this moment, but not by heavenly forces. The battle is for strength of community. It is about unity vs division and selflessness vs selfishness. Communities are not buildings or streets, shopping malls or governments. They are people supporting each other despite their differences. People who are enjoying the benefits of knowing and living next to one another. Will you accept this invitation and come meet with others interested in connecting with the people around them and working for a better future?

This quote by Margarette Mead says it all:

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
